• Parallel Computer Architecture: A Hardware/Software Approach, by David Culler et al. is an excellent book containing up to date materials on a number of current systems.

• Computer Architecture A Quantitative Approach, John Hennessy and David Patterson, second edition. It doesn't cover SMPs but an excellent textbook on computer architecture.

• Lecture notes on parallel processing by Fox (Syracuse), Leiserson (MIT), Dongarra (Oak Ridge - UTK), Culler (Berkeley), Demmel (Berkeley), Yelick (Berkeley) and a number of others are the main source of many of the ideas and discussions in these pages.
