As noted in Chapter 9, a side effect of developing an economically viable PetaFLOPS computer technology is the possibility of inexpensive TeraFLOPS systems in a range that may make one available to every computational scientist. It is appropriate even now to engage in a design study to explore the architecture and device technology issues related to TeraFLOPS workstations. These may become as important in the overall computing medium as the large PetaFLOPS central computers.
